All the artworks in this collection, titled 'X Integration (Cross Integration),' draw inspiration from Vincent van Gogh's iconic paintings: 'Sunflowers,' 'The Starry Night,' 'Self-portraits,' and 'Courtesan (after Eisen),' which is a reproduction of Keisai Eisen's Ukiyo-e. Van Gogh was greatly influenced by Japanese Art, and 'Courtesan (after Eisen)' is one of the paintings that strongly reflects the deep connection between him and Japan.
All the images of my artworks are generated by Midjourney (AI). After testing hundreds of images, I meticulously selected those that work well with animation and are recognizable as the original works. All the generative animations are created using TouchDesigner, a node-based software for visual coding.
Since 2022, I have been exploring the combination of AI and generative art. My primary inspiration comes from iconic paintings, which serve as the basis for generating AI images. To date, I have created artworks inspired by artists such as Johannes Vermeer, Gustav Klimt, Leonardo da Vinci, Alfons Mucha, Sandro Botticelli, and the Japanese painting artist Uemura Shōen. My artistic journey began with oil painting, so the idea of seamlessly blending analog and digital elements feels both stimulating and natural to me.
In Japan, tradition and technology coexist harmoniously. My intention is to express 'Japan' by blending the old and the new, the analogue and the digital.
